The national vegetation classification survey determines the botanical importance of local habitats.
On sites which support large areas of woodland, grassland and edge habitats often it is necessary to determine the botanical importance of these habitats through classifying them using the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (the research arm of Natural England) National Vegetation Classification system.
